Alabama’s public holidays in 2018 provide an excellent opportunity to tour “The Heart of Dixie” to experience its natural wonders and learn of its intriguing history.

There will be nine long weekends in Alabama in 2018, two of them resulting from state-specific holidays: Confederate Memorial Day on Monday, April 30th, and Jefferson Davis Day on Monday, June 4th.

Things to see and do in Alabama in 2018

Some places to put on your “to-visit list” as you explore the state of Alabama during your next holiday weekend include:

Cheaha State Park, set in the midst of the Talladega National Forest and containing Cheaha Mountain, the highest point in the state. Hike through the pristine Alabama wilderness on the Pinhoti Trail and take in your surroundings from Bunker Tower. Then camp on Cheaha Mountain and cool off in Cheaha Lake.

The beach town of Gulf Shores. Here, you can swim and enjoy the sand and sun, go on a “dolphin cruise,” kayak the hidden back bays, visit historic Fort Morgan, see the USS Alabama at its namesake park, and much more.

Orange Beach, a getaway destination popular for its white-sand beach strand, prime fishing opportunities, golf center, zoo, dolphin sightings in Perdido Bay, Indian and Sea Museum, and a host of other attractions.
