There is no better time to tour “the Golden State” than during California’s public holidays in 2018. From pristine Pacific beaches to rugged mountains and deserts to fascinating historic sites, California has a near-endless array of attractions to offer its visitors.

In 2018, California will have as many as seven long weekends, resulting not only the common national holidays but also state-specific holidays like César Chávez Day (March 31st) and Thanksgiving Friday.

Things to see and do in California in 2018

While California is a vast state with a large number of popular attractions, here are a few of its most popular to visit during your next public holiday:

In Death Valley National Park, there are breathtaking views of the rugged surroundings to be had at lookout points, along hiking trails, and on scenic drives. You can also see the old Spanish-style “Scotty’s Castle” and spot Native American rock inscriptions and bighorn sheep in Titus Canyon.

On a tour of the Napa Valley, you can learn how fine wines are made at the Castello di Amorosa vineyard and winery, scan the countryside on board the Napa Valley Wine Train, or relax among the redwoods at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park.

Visit the scenic and historic city of Santa Cruz, where you can walk the mile-long Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, see the sea life at New Brighton State Beach, or hike through canyons and redwoods in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
