There will be as many as eight extended weekends in Massachusetts throughout 2018, including the one created by Patriots Day, which is celebrated only in Massachusetts and Maine. Patriots Day commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord, which were the scene of the “shot heard round the world” in 1775 and the beginning of the American Revolution.
Cape Cod is a hook-shaped peninsula in southern Massachusetts that is coextensive with Barnstable County and is a popular tourist destination.
Martha's Vineyard is an island of about 100 square miles that lies off the southern coast of Massachusetts and is a part of the state.
