Texas’ public holidays in 2018 give a great chance to visit and enjoy the many tourist sites the Lone Star State has to offer.
There will be a dozen extended weekends to choose from in Texas in 2018, more than in most other states. Some of these holidays are Texas-specific, such as: Texas Independence Day (Friday, March 2nd), San Jacinto Day (April 21st), and Lyndon B. Johnson’s Birthday on Monday, August 27th.
Things to see and do in Texas in 2018
Among the many scenic and historic offerings in the great state of Texas to visit on your next public holiday are these:
Big Bend National Park, where you can drive past canyons, yucca forests, and old abandoned settlements on Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive, hike up the Chisos Mountains to view the remnants of ancient forests in what is now a parch desert, or cruise by the scenic banks of the Rio Grande on a guided boat tour.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park, where you can hike or ride on horseback to get an unforgettable view from the top of Guadalupe Peak, see the “film-famous” mountain dubbed “El Capitan,” and learn of ranching history at the restored Frijole Ranch House.
Tour the historic district of the German-settled Texas town of New Braunfels. If visiting during November, attend the Wurstfest for a taste of authentic “Germano-Texan” sausage; if there for Christmas, attend the Wassailfest.
